Talon walked onto the field calmly, his scythe slung across his back as he stepped onto the open field. The wind blew fiercely now, causing his coat to flow behind him and hair to sway in the winds domain. He stepped to the center of the field and waited patiently. He was waiting for Kiku now, they had agreed to meet here for a spar after they had eaten lunch. He carefully measured what he knew of the boy. As a ninjutsu user, he would need to keep his distance. Something Talon was very good at closing. This meant that Kiku would need to perform a surprise attack to gain the upper hand. This assumption was further reinforced in the fact that Talon was a rank above Kiku, and the boy knew it. It was after all, the path he should take. He focused his senses, and began feeling for any jutsu being used, none yet he noticed, but that didn't mean it would stay that way.

He stood there for a while, keeping his senses open to any abnormalities in his surroundings. He mentally prepared his defense as he thought back to something Kiku had said "I do mostly ninjutsu, and a couple genjutsu here and there. Can't really train here though. I'm a fire type, and most of the non-elemental stuff I know either would tear stuff up or needs a partner."

Talon knew to expect either a fire jutsu or a destructive non-elemental ninjutsu. The fire jutsu a genin would know included fireball, phoenix flower, and finally, the dragon flame. this wasn't to say these were all of the jutsu the boy know. But he could guess they would be used.

By the time Kiku showed up, Talon had already taken up position at the middle of a field. He was standing out in the open, almost inviting an attack. Kiku was a little wary. He knew he should probably do a surprise attack, but his powers could be very destructive. What if he hit? Talon could be seriously hurt. He didn't want to risk torching the chuunin.

Kiku walked out in the open, waving. "Um, hi Talon! I'm ready when you are, how should we start?" Kiku stood within shouting distance, not wanting to get too close yet. This could get rough if Talon closed the distance. He just stood well back, keeping his meditative stance. If Talon tried to rush him, Kiku would be ready to spring into action at any second.

Talon sweat dropped, if this is how Kiku would act in a serious situation then the boy was in trouble. He decided it was best to show him the error of his ways and he sprung into the attack. He unhooked his scythe and began twirling in one swift motion and he began moving quickly toward the boy with the speed of one used to their weapon. He spun the scythe rapidly as he moved keeping it laced with chakra so that he could block ninjutsu with it. What most people didn't realize about his this move is that it can deflect oncoming ninjutsu with it as long as it was weak enough. He felt confident that his skill could deflect anything Kiku could through at him and dashed toward him with the reckless abandon of a scythe user because of it.

Talon didn't say a word, believing the battlefield to be a place of blows and jutsu, not vocabulary. He felt at peace in combat, and feel of his scythe spinning in his hand caused a surge of serenity for him. He felt the wind the blade generated as it spun and knew one wrong move would spell the end of his life. This was the kind of combat Talon lived for, the idea of your own move putting yourself at risk seemed to make him go wild and he reveled in it. He moved toward Kiku swiftly, intent to make sure the boy learned at least one valuable lesson here today.

Kiku let out one of his little squeaks when Talon charged at him. This was certainly unexpected. He was used to spars beginning with some sort of setup or something, not just throwing yourself at someone without a word. Apparently, he had misunderstood Talon's plan. He thought they were going to meet up and arrange a spar, not just start one on sight.

As soon as Talon charged, Kiku was already springing into action. He stood where he was, and a gold chakra formed behind him. It took the form of a golden statue of a tranquil figure, with a thousand arms fanned out behind it. With a thought, ten hands gathered to form a wall in front of him. The scythe was strong, almost pushing the hands back, but ten more joined in and held it off. Two more hands angled around the barrier, aiming to strike at Talon from both sides.

Talons mind immediately registered three things. One a giant golden figure just appeared behind Kiku, Two, the thing had what had to be a thousand arms, and three, ten of them block his scythe while two more were swinging for him from both sides. Talon quickly pivoted his feet and ducked, moving around the barrier of hands and under the swinging arms as he spun his scythe and swung, making sure the keep his blade dulled with chakra he spun his scythe quickly and struck out with a tearing motion that would impale Kikus shoulder and move toward his hip if the blade was sharp. Since he knew kiku would have to either move or dedicate more of his hands and more chakra Talon had the advantage.

He made sure to stay light on his feet, in order to dodge more arms or another jutsu Kiku could use. Due to kiku's rank and size however, he doubted his chakra coils could be large enough to maintain such a jutsu for long. He doubted he could keep this statue up much longer. All Talon had to do was stick to his scythe style and avoid the arms.

This jutsu was putting Kiku in an awkward position. Talon was really putting the pressure on, but Kiku wasn't yet skilled enough to be able to move around while maintaining the Senjusatsu. It was more of a "you shall not pass" thing at this point. The genin had to either hold his ground or break his best (and only) defensive jutsu. He chose the former. More hands formed another barrier, holding off the scythe while the first barrier drew back into the fan of arms. It was taking all of his focus to keep up with the barrage. Talon seemed to be using the defense to his advantage, turning the force of a deflected attack into another attack. Kiku was pretty impressed, he'd never seen a weapon master at work like this, at least not this close. Fluid attacks, not a single movement wasted. He could learn a lot from this guy.

But right now, Kiku was more focused on not getting beat up again. Even with the thousand hands, Kiku hadn't quite mastered this jutsu enough to keep far ahead of the whirling chuunin. In desperation, he just tried to get some space. Twenty hands, each the size of Talon's chest, formed a barrier and pushed, trying to knock the scythe wielder back to a safer distance.

To say Talon was impressed would be pretty accurate at this moment. This defensive jutsu was hardly perfected but it was enough to keep Talon on his toes. He struck at Kiku more and more, becoming a whirling death machine almost if not for the dulled blade but every strike was blocked. Suddenly twenty of the hands pushed out at Talon and he jumped back quickly. "Maybe I can use a little distance to my advantage, he has to maintain that stance to use that technique, so when he makes seals for another jutsu I can strike." He thought as he jumped back out of range of the arms. He stood back, scythe at the ready and stared straight at Kiku, watching every movement and sensing for every flare of chakra. The boy couldn't possibly keep this jutsu up long and still have chakra to keep this fight going.

Talon watch Kiku, wary of the arms and his movements, he made sure to provide as small a target as possible but this was an unconscious action, drilled into him through years of practice with his clan. He felt a tension as he waited and suddenly a breeze swept through the field.

Kiku was breathing easier after Talon jumped away. The chuunin didn't charge back in this time, instead opting to watch and wait. Right now, they were both considering their options. Kiku wasn't sure how much longer he could maintain this. He hadn't gotten the opportunity to stress-test it much, and Talon was sure as hell doing that. Kiku had never had to endure this sort of whirling assault before, normally he was just defending from the front.

Kiku broke the stance, leaping backwards. If the start of their little spar was any indication, Talon would be closing the distance fast. Kiku made a few hand signs as fast as he could, gathering fire chakra in his lungs. He spat it out in a cloud of ash between them, trying to provide some cover.

Talon saw the statue disappear and watched as Kiku ran away from him while sealing. He waited patiently for the jutsu to come and when Kiku began spewing ash out of his lungs he jumped further back, making sure to stand away from it. He knew Kiku would need to either shoot his fire jutsu into the ash which would consume the jutsu in the explosion, which Talon was out of range for, or run through it with one of his destructive non-element ninjutsu. He waited patiently, he was determined to make Kiku waste as much chakra as possible before he can his assault anew.

The ash cloud engulfed the rest of it's total radius and measured it at about a 15 foot diameter. He could easily stay out of it and he waited for Kiku to either appear, or for the cloud to explode. After all, Kiku still couldn't see him through the cloud, so he wouldn't know if his fire jutsu would work or not. He needed to be smart here and consider his option.

They both stood there for a moment, the ash cloud hanging in the air between them. This was unexpected. Kiku had thought Talon was going to rush him and try to interrupt his hand signs, or circle around to hit him, but there wasn't the first sign of movement. The cloud was almost still, only barely disturbed by the wind, but that wouldn't last long. He had to use the cover before it ended.

Kiku held out a hand, estimating where Talon would be. He hadn't moved too much, at least not enough to rustle the cloud. Kiku held up a hand, and there was a whirring sound as the blue ball of chakra formed in his hand. He didn't want to hit him directly, so he aimed a little down, trying to hit the ground in front of Talon. "Rasengan!" Kiku threw the jutsu forward, scattering the ash cloud.

Talon waited patiently for Kikus move and suddenly he heard Kiku yell out "Rasengan". Talons eyes widened considerably as he saw the ash cloud began to distort. Talon immediately dodged and ran to the left, making sure to keep a considerable distance from his starting position. "This kid is running through chakra like a fountain, he can't possibly keep up." He thought as he now saw Kiku and stood at a great distance away. The wind continued to blow through the field and he continued to keep his distance. He grinned as he awaited for Kikus next jutsu, Talon would run him dry of chakra at this rate. This meant that Talon could close in soon without fear. He hadn't used all that much energy earlier, and with the distance between them, which Talon measures at about two hundred yards, he could easily dodge whatever he threw.

He retook his stance and waited once more. He was trying to annoy Kiku with this passive style, the boy knew he would need to either begin using more conventional, lower ranked jutus, which Talon could tear through and deflect easily, or try to use taijutsu, which he knew would never work on Talon. All he had to do was wait, and waiting was something he was good at.

Kiku panted, hands ready for more signs. As expected, Talon had dodged. That was half the point of shouting it out, really. But now, Talon was still holding back. He kept a distance now, eying Kiku. Kiku looked right back, holding his stance. He'd used up a lot of power so far. Two A-ranks and a B-rank, he didn't have a whole lot of chakra left. Once again, Kiku was left griping that he didn't have the legendary chakra reserves of his ancestors.

Kiku kept his distance, starting to pace. At this distance Talon would be able to dodge pretty easily, and his only guided jutsu would turn Talon's whole area into a barbecue pit. He really didn't want to get that dangerous for a friendly spar. He would bide his time, waiting for Talon to get close and then trying one of his other jutsu. He still had a few tricks up his sleeve.

Talon saw him panting and grinned, The boy was running out of chakra, just a he knew he would. He took his Blood Scythe into his hands and began spinning it once more. He took a deep breath and began to charge at Kiku quickly, adding chakra to his spin. He closed the distance fast, much faster than before but it still took a few seconds due to the size of the gap between them. As he arrived at Kiku he moved into his styles main combination, He swung his blade low toward is left leg with one side, and feinted for a tearing strike into Kikus shoulder. Due to the dull blade it wouldn't cut, but it would hurt like a bitch. He would then pull his scythe back and dart it forward quickly, aiming toward the heart, which once again, isn't in any danger due to the dull blade.

This combo would make him a near flurry of attacks due to double sides of the scythe. He still had plenty of energy, so he knew he could continue the assault for a time if this failed. He kept his favorite defensive technique in reserve just in case of any tricks and made sure to always be light on his feet to be ready for a dodge.

Okay, this was bad. Talon was charging, and Kiku didn't really have the chakra to do much aside from torching him. That would either mess up Talon pretty badly or he would dodge, leaving Kiku exactly where he is now minus some more chakra. He had to think fast. Luckily, Kiku was good at thinking.

Talon's scythe whistled through the air, looking as though it had cut clean through Kiku for a split second. Then, in a puff of smoke, it was replaced by a shattered log. Kiku appeared behind him, trying to use the opening the replacement had given him. He made a quick hand sign, focusing his chakra into one hand. Then he reached out, trying to touch Talon. One touch was all it would take, and he would have this in the bag.

Talon immediately knew something was wrong when two things happened. The first, Kiku didn't even try to dodge the scythe. It didn't matter much he dulled the blade it would still hurt. The second is that the blade cut into Kiku, the moment it did he knew it was a substitution and he quickly pivoted on his feet and spun outward in a circle. He effectively cut off the only possible attack position Kiku had available, his back. He found Kiku and used the handle of his scythe to try and knock his outstretched hand away. He didn't know why Kiku needed bodily contact, but he wouldn't let it happen. He jumped back and landed about twenty feet from Kiku and held his scythe at the ready. "Way too close.." He muttered softly.

Kiku's face fell. His last real bid, and he'd missed. He straightened up, brushing himself off. "That was pretty good, wanna end it there?" Doing any more would force him to fight in close quarters, and he was definitely not up for another round of that. His suit covered bruises nicely, but they still hurt like hell.

Kiku approached, offering a handshake. "You're really good, we should practice more often. Maybe I could build up my chakra some." He was pretty impressed by Talon's stamina. He'd pulling out all sorts of maneuvers and he didn't even seem winded. Just how tough was this guy? "What do you say?" Kiku gave him a smile.

Talon took a deep breath after Kiku consented defeat. He had been used to such high speed assaults due to his training and most of the spar was him watching the boy and waiting. He never had to use all that much stamina. The kid had a lot to learn, especially about baiting out an opponent with weaker ninjutsu to strike out with stronger ones later. He felt a breeze blow through the field and he smiled softly at the familiar feel of the wind kissing his cheek. "Of course my young friend. You could also practice not using so many high ranking ninjutsu so often. The weaker ones can be just as effective if used properly. You're a smart kid, I'm sure you could work something out." He said as he yawned suddenly.

He put his scythe into it's holster and shook Kikus hand as he had been waiting for a bit now and Talon realized he was being rude. "Apologies, I always zone out a little when I'm tired. You did a lot better than you think. Work on that first jutsu you used, I'm sure if you could master it then you would be a force to be reckoned with." He said as he let go of Kiku's hand and turned to walk away, waving his hand behind him as he did so. "Later Kiku, good luck with the training." He said as he left the field for a nap in a good tree.
