Emi and Kiku had parted ways for now, leaving him to his own devices for a while. This left Kiku alone in a strange village. It was all a bit overwhelming. He had never left Soragakure before, and here he was exploring an underground city by himself. It was pretty much the opposite of Sora.

Kiku wandered through the streets, staring at all the sights. He was pretty obviously a tourist. Kiku wondered if there were any cheesy souvenir shops around here. He wouldn't be able to forgive himself if he went home without buying something tacky here. If it came down to it he could pick something up at the gate on the way out, but he would rather have time to browse the selection of overpriced crap. He was fully aware that souvenirs were expensive and essentially worthless, but addiction is a powerful thing.

Days as such were seen as Xsalice's "lazy days" and did not come as often as he wished. No missions, no training, no foreign diplomat extraction processes. Nothing. For one day out of the seven of the week he was able to enjoy the little things in life. With his head buried in a little list Xsalice walked through the active streets of Donzokogakure. "Let's see here... Paid for the hole I put in the side of Mr. Wong's restaurant. Check. Ate at Mr. Wong's restaurant. Check" Xsalice paused in the middle of the street for a moment before turning down a side street and continuing with his list.

"Pick up something for mom's anniversary." He replaced his list with his ryo pouch and found that it was nearly empty. The one year anniversary of his mother's passing was coming up soon, plans were already drawn up of his return to her burial grounds. True it had been some time since his last mission, but he didn't think he had ran through all of his earnings so quickly. Nevertheless, Xsalice knew that his mother appreciated his thought of her more than that of an item which would probably get swept into the hands of the grounds keeper. Thus, he found himself on the outside of a local gift shop.

The bell atop the door chimed as he popped his head inside, he could see that business was slow through only another smallish boy being within the shop. Xsalice browsed over miniature figures of bronzed men with plaques underneath them that said things like: "Best Girlfriend" or "Best Husband". These types of things always brought about a chuckle from him.

Kiku had found the jackpot. Forget all those roadside stands, this was a full-fledged shop full of tackiness! He couldn't believe his luck. Kiku roamed the store, trying to figure out what he should get. There was just so much to choose from, he didn't know how he would ever pick. Unfortunately he was somewhat limited by how much he could carry and by his spare cash, but there was still a chance to get something really cool by Kiku standards.

The bell above the door rang, and Kiku looked up from his browsing. Another boy had entered, about his age or a little younger. Kiku knew better than anyone that looks could be deceiving. The other boy seemed to be a shinobi, wearing a Donzokogakure headband around his neck. Probably a genin, unless he was a chuunin who didn't like the vest dress code. Kiku resumed his browsing, passing the other boy as he did so. Kiku's own forehead protector was tied around his arm, on the side facing the other genin.

Little to no attention was paid to the boy among Xsalice first coming into the shop for the simple fact that it was a gift shop, one of the best tourist ~~traps~~ attraction concepts to have ever been created. Yet, the light from the lamps illuminating the shop reflected off of the boy's forehead protector and drew Xsalice's attention immediately. The insignia of Soragakure stuck out like a flame in the darkness. He began placing the bronze figurine down for a second, but stopped.

Xsalice found himself at a crossroads in his morality. It had only been a few weeks earlier that his older sister figure flamed him for being suspicious of foreign shinobi, yet coincidentally, she found herself under attack by a foreign ninja. A foreign ninja from the same village as this very boy. Could he have been the attacker? If so, Arumi had some explaining to do as to why she didn't overpower him with her pinky-finger. Xsalice didn't know what to do, confrontation wasn't really seen as an option on his off day, but would be available if necessary.

He cleared his throat, before speaking to the boy. "Hello. I see you're from Soragakure, might want to put that out of sight among these streets. One of our natives was attacked by someone bearing that insignia. I doubt you had anything to do with it, but one is never to careful now a days." Xsalice said.

It only took a few seconds for Kiku to switch into panic mode. He was starting to really regret not paying more attention to current events. He got so caught up in the past that occasionally he missed important developments in the present, and this was a hell of a thing to miss. Why would one of his allies do something so reckless? Kiku shook his head frantically, eyes wide. "No, I would never!" He really meant it. If there was one lesson history taught, it was that peace and cooperation between the great villages was pretty goddamn important. He wouldn't take such a lesson lightly.

Kiku untied the headband, tucking it into a pocket. This was troubling news, he would have to warn Emi. If things were as bad as this boy had implied, she could be in danger. Then again, the chuunin could handle herself pretty well. She outranked him, and her charm and friendliness could get her through most problems. Still, he hoped nobody would give her any trouble.

Kiku bowed, remembering his manners. "I'm Uzumaki Kikuchiyo, genin. Just here making deliveries. I didn't know about this attack, and I can't imagine the Sokage approving. Maybe it was a missing-nin who didn't get marked yet?" This was pretty disturbing news. He didn't want to think he shared a village with such unstable people. Would one of his fellow shinobi really attack a member of an allied village?
